Web-based, Interactive Mapping

Google Earth, Microsoft Virtual Earth and the multitude of mashups on the web have changed traditional GIS for the better, opening up all sorts of lower cost possibilities for interactive, web-based mapping. Be sure to allow pop-ups within your browser.

The Simplest:

Fly through your town's historic sites, snowmobile trails, or zoning districts in 3-D using Google Earth.

Conversion of GIS data to KML files (points, lines or area data)

Cost: minimum charge of $70, typically under $200

Example: Utica Boilermaker Road Race

Option A:

Basic mapping and queries, no aerial photography

Data layers and colors used fully customizable, link in websites or photos

Cost: a few hundred dollars, no annual hosting fees, annual maintenance based on actual hours required

Example: Trenton Chamber of Commerce membership (best viewed using Internet Explorer)

Adobe SVG viewer (free download) is needed to view these maps within Internet Explorer, you may need to allow blocked content within your browser also

Option B:

Customized mapping and queries, aerial photos, additional functionality can be added as needed

Data layers, search/query, colors fully customizable, links to websites, ad display, directions
